Palindromy
w biologii, wprowadzenie.
W bardziej bliskich nam czasach
pisali palindromy Grecy, Rzymianie, Hindusi, posługiwali
się nim magowie i czarownicy. Ale do pisanego języka
angielskiego słowo 'Palindrom' weszło dopiero
w 1629 r. w opracowaniu B. Jonsona. ------------------------ Palindromes
in Biology, an introduction We learn from well-informed sources that when our forefather Adam awoke from the anaesthetic after giving birth to our foremother Eve (which should be called ‘ribbirth’ or costagenesis), the Lord conducted Eve to him from the nook where she was tidying herself up. He raised Adam, no doubt still somewhat groggy. Adam, a true gentleman, introduced himself to Eve with the first words ever spoken: "Madam, I am Adam". [ill.] Thus palindromes have been keeping us company from the very beginning… In more recent times Greeks, Roman and Hindoos all wrote palindromes, and they were put to use by magicians and necromancers . But the English word ‘palindrome’ only entered the written word in 1629 being introduced by Ben Johnson. Gradually the community of ‘palindromists’ grew, currently numbering thousands of amateurs and hundreds of more or less formal societies rummaging in every language on earth. Wikipedia thus presents the contemporary role of the palindrome: "The palindrome is today, first of all, a mental amusement and verbal fun, which provides amusement chiefly by the contrast between an ideal and exact symmetry, and the chaos of often senseless expressions and sentences which arise during the process of creating it". Theoretically palindromes should exist in all languages and in every sequence of signals. They are therefore palindromes which are poetic, literary, bawdy, musical, and no doubt those twodimensional and three dimensional in painting and in sculpture. Let us however take a look at the 'quirkness' of palindromes. It can now be said without exaggeration that palindromes are one of the most important facts of our world. Without palindromes life, the evolution of living organisms would have run a quite different course, perhaps some of the more complex organisms would not exist, or would have died out millions of years ago. Genetic palindromes are the very foundation of genetic order. And how this is so, I shall tell you next next. [QZE01::086];ART33-006-A1;OxD |
